Dynamic table
A dynamic table displays rows of data with built-in pagination, sorting, and re-ordering functionality.
When to use
- Tabular data too long for one screen, where the reader works through it deliberately.
- Data a reader will sort or page through rather than read end to end.
When not to use
- A short set that fits on one page, where pagination is machinery for nothing.
- A set so large that paging is hopeless. That wants search and filters first.
- A feed meant to be browsed, which suits loading more on scroll.
Content
What to write, and what to leave out.
- Say the range near the control, as in 21 to 40 of 156, so paging has a sense of scale.
- Keep column labels stable between pages, so the shape does not shift under the reader.
