Blanket
A blanket covers the underlying UI for a layered component, such as a modal dialog or a tooltip.
When to use
- Behind a layer that takes over, such as a modal or a drawer, where both of those already include one.
- On its own only when you are building a layer that the system does not already provide.
When not to use
- To draw attention to something. A blanket blocks the page, which is a much stronger thing to do than emphasis.
- Behind something small such as a popup or a tooltip, which should not stop the reader using the page.
- As a loading state over a whole screen. A skeleton keeps the layout and says more.
Intensity
What each of this component's grounds spends, measured against the ladder in both themes.
| Appearance | Ground | Light | Dark |
|---|---|---|---|
| blanket | blanket | 0.350Marked | 0.047Substrate |
Substrate, Ambient and Marked are measured. Directed depends on what else is in the region, and Demanded is declared and rationed, so neither is a property this component carries by itself. See intensity.
